What is macular degeneration?

The macula is the central part of the retina at the back of the eye. The retina processes all vision. The macula allows you to read, recognise faces, drive; just about everything.

Macular degeneration causes progressive macular damage. Treatments are available for some types of macular degeneration and early detection can save sight.

Common Symptoms

Straight lines appear wavy or bent
Difficulty reading
Difficulty distinguishing faces
Dark patches or empty spaces in vision
Poor night vision
Decreased colour sensitivity

Take the test

If you notice change in your vision it is important to see an optometrist or ophthalmologist as soon as possible. Early treatment can save sight.
